Review

I would like to thank the author for providing me with a copy for an honest review.

Vanquished is a really unique novel, one that you wont want to miss reading. I loved that it was set in current times but then felt like I was reading a gladiator time period story because of the circumstances. This book is full suspense, action, heart-break and fight. This is not just fight in the physical sense but in the emotion one too.

Valoria wakes up and she is in a place she does not recognize, surrounded by people she does not know. Valoria soon is being auctioned off and she is trying to figure out what is the best option for her and how she can make it happen. All that she cares about is finding her 13 year old sister. When Valoria is told she is in one house she does everything she can think of to get bought by him.

Valoria soon finds out she was miss informed and that her sister is not in the house she is at. Valoria has upset the woman who wanted to buy her, she is the richest women on the island. She visits Valoria and tells her that she has her sister and that she has sold and she is gone. Valoria soon realizes that this place is full of pain and anything you care about will be used against you.

Valoria is bought to train as a fighter. She is expected to fight and win, if she doesn’t win she know the consequences will be great. She still holds out hope that if she wins and makes enough money they will help her find her sister.

Who really can you trust in a place so sadistic? Will Valoria find her sister or is she really gone forever? Can you make new friends in a place where you are asked to fight to the death? How deep do the betrayals really run in this place? You will have to read to find out.

I really liked this highly original story that Green created. I felt like I was reading a book adaptation on 300 because it is bloody and to death in a gladiator style combat. Sometimes even more ruthless than that. The trafficking issues and people with power or money being able to get away with crimes like this was highly disturbing since things like this do happen. Maybe not an island but yes people get taken and sold all the time. I thought Green did a great job adding the realistic element while it still being fictional. I am giving this book 4 out of 4 stars.

Excerpt:

A muscle in the right side of his jaw ticks and my eyes go straight to it. I stare at it as it ticks a second time. A third. My vision narrows to just that one hard muscle, and warmth flushes through me. The muscle stops ticking and instead locks into tense attention.

I swallow, and my gaze trails down to his throat to see it constrict, too. The puffy vein in his neck draws my attention next and I watch as it thumps. Thumps. Thumps.

He moves a fraction closer and I draw in his unique Alexior scent. He shifts, and I realize he’s opening the door.

I don’t bring my eyes back to his. I don’t want him to see whatever it is that is going on inside of me right now. I don’t want to face the possibility there is nothing going on inside of him.

He grabs my upper arm and squeezes almost too tightly and then roughly trails his hand down the length of my arm and around to my lower back. So low he’s touching the top of my ass. He turns me and presses me forward into the room.
