A modern cupid story set in present-day Wisconsin combining the fantastical elements of Greek mythology with the contemporary drama of MTV’s Teen Mom.
People don’t understand love. If they did, they’d get why dance prodigy Karma Clark just can’t say goodbye to her boyfriend, Danny. No matter what he says or does or how he hurts her, she can’t stay angry with him . . . and can’t stop loving him. But there’s a reason why Karma is helpless to break things off: she’s been shot with a love arrow.
Aaryn, son of Cupid, was supposed to shoot both Karma andDanny but found out too late that the other arrow in his pack was useless. And with that, Karma’s life changed forever. One pregnancy confirmed. One ballet scholarship lost. And dream after dream tossed to the wind.
A clueless Karma doesn’t know that her toxic relationship is Aaryn’s fault . . . but he’s going to get a chance to make things right. He’s here to convince Danny to man up and be there for Karma. But what if this god from Mount Olympus finds himself falling in love with a beautiful dancer from Wisconsin who can never love him in return?
This fast-paced debut novel explores the internal & external conflicts of a girl who finds herself inexplicably drawn to a boy who seemingly doesn’t reciprocate her feelings, touching on the issues of love, sex and responsibility, with a heroine struggling to control her destiny–perfect for fans of Katie McGarry’s novels and MTV’s 16 and Pregnant.
Arrows is a fun, light-hearted, good-time!!! It reminded me of a great chick flick, it had the feel of Down to You, except this has a twist with the mythology and Gods. Melissa gave me a cute book that was a unique twist with the contemporary feel.
Aaryn the son of Cupid has come to a school full of humans to prove himself. He sees the perfect couple to shoot his arrows of love into. Karma is first to receive the arrow with a perfect shot, but then Aaryn realizes something is wrong with the second arrow and he cannot shoot Danny with one to make him in love with her. Aaryn goes back home and hopes that no one will notice the mistake that he made.
One year later, Karma has a baby girl with Danny. Aaryn is called in by his father who has found out his error and is told he needs to fix it and make Danny propose to Karma. Danny is an absent father, cares more about being at parties, and having fun then he does about Karma and their daughter.
Karma’s family and friends are so frustrated with her not realizing she deserves better. Karma is a talented dancer with potential. Aaryn is sent to help her but as he gets closer to her feelings develop.
Will Karma sacrifice her future for Danny because of what happened to her? Can Aaryn fix the situation so that Karma will finally be happy? You have to read this book to find out!
Arrows was a fast paced read that you will pick-up and not put down until you finish. I thought this book was adorable, I do wish there was a little bit more of the mythology aspect. I really liked the direction of the book and thought it was different, I just thought the ending was a little rushed. I would recommend this book, and can’t wait to see what the author does next! I am giving it 3.5 out of 5 stars.
