Synopsis:

ONE CHOICE.

TWO REALMS.

NO SECOND CHANCE.

Tenley “Ten” Lockwood is an average seventeen-year-old girl…who has spent the past thirteen months locked inside the Prynne Asylum. The reason? Not her obsession with numbers, but her refusal to let her parents choose where she’ll live—after she dies.

There is an eternal truth most of the world has come to accept: Firstlife is merely a dress rehearsal, and real life begins after death.

In the Everlife, two realms are in power: Troika and Myriad, longtime enemies and deadly rivals. Both will do anything to recruit Ten, including sending their top Laborers to lure her to their side. Soon, Ten finds herself on the run, caught in a wild tug-of-war between the two realms who will do anything to win the right to her soul. Who can she trust? And what if the realm she’s drawn to isn’t home to the boy she’s falling for? She just has to stay alive long enough to make a decision…

Review

I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with an advance reviewer copy for an honest review.

Firstlife is a unique and intriguing first book in a new series by Gena. I really loved the first part of this story and getting sucked into Tenley’s life, why she is making her stand and all she is enduring for it. The story-line between Archer and Killian is great. Killian is my new favorite book-boyfriend, I did swoon hard core for him in this book.

Ten has to make the choice for her future about where she wants to spend her Everlife, the only problem is she isn’t sure what is the right choice. She knows this is a huge decision and she is determined to make the right one for her when she is ready, not when people tell her or where they tell her to join. Her parents have a lot at stake, and need her to make the choice to join Myriad. They will go to any lengths to make that happen. Troika feels they need her just as bad.

Would you endure anything you had to in this life to ensure that you made the best choice for you for your future life? Would you let others welfare or the chance of being someones enemy sway you? You have to read this book to see how Tenley handles these very obstacles in claiming the future she wants.

I really liked this story and loved, I mean really loved Killian. Firstlife was a slow build in the beginning which I liked and was okay with. I did have issues towards the middle of the book with the repetitive plot. The second half of the book had an uneven pacing, it was not as smooth and even as the first half, it was rushed in scenes and then slow in others. The bromance/hatemance between Killian and Asher is amazing, I hope for more on that, we will see what happens!!! I have hopes for this series and where Gena will take it, I really can’t wait for the next book since it does end on a cliff-hanger. I am giving this book 4 out of 5 stars.
