Format: Paperback, eBook
The ability to magnetize and manipulate metal with the flick of her wrist makes seventeen-year-old Lexi Adams a crack mechanic, but it’s a disaster in the making when her stepdad trades her skills to NASCAR team owner Dean Grant for an entire season’s worth of sponsorship ads.
Now Lexi has no other choice but to suck it up and hope she can keep her magnetic impulses under control—that is, until she runs into NASCAR’s hot new rookie, Colton Tayler.
When Carl Stacy, the ruthless team owner of the defending Cup Champion, discovers Lexi’s secret and plots to use it to ruin Dean’s race team for good, Lexi must either expose her ability to save Colton, risking Dean’s career and her own freedom in the process, or watch the only guy she’s ever fallen for race to his death.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with an advance copy for an honest review.
Magnetic Shift is a fast-paced, action-packed, swoon worthy read! I really liked that it felt authentic and not forced. The abilities of Lexi added to this cool racing story and made it so much more intriguing. Magnetic shift has multiple layers in the story which makes you really connect and feel for the characters.
Lexi has had a rough up bringing since her mom died. She has been abused and mistreated by Roy the man she has been living with and working for. She now has a new opportunity and she intends not to blow it. She does worry about people learning her secrets.
Dean has offered to take Lexi in and let her work for him. He knows what its like to be abused and need help. He wants to help her and sees she has some talent. Colton is an up and coming, rising star. He has been proving that he is a force to be worried about on the race field. He loves Dean like a father, and knows that without him he would not have any of the opportunities he has now. He is not sure what to make of Lexi but he is not sure if he can trust her, and that she won’t take advantage of Dean.
Colton starts to want to get to know Lexi but she won’t let anyone close. She over hears some of his conversations and thinks that he cannot be trusted. Can either of them tell each other the truth? Will they keep pushing each other away to protect themselves? Will Lexi trust anyone with her secret or will someone find out and use it against her? You have to read this book to find out.
Magnetic shift will give you all the feels of a great contemporary, while satisfying you, if you like action, and giving you a paranormal twist. This book hit so many notes, and as someone who likes to read a wide-range of genres I really liked that. I thought the blend was well done, and added to the emotion and twists. I would definitely recommend it and I am giving it 4 out of 5 stars.
Lucy D. Briand lives in Ottawa, Canada with her comic book fanatic husband and her nonchalant Siamese cat.
By day she works full time as a public servant for the Government of Canada, but by night her creative mind takes over and conjures up young adult gear-head romance stories with supernatural twists.
When not working, reading, writing, or watching way too much TV, Lucy likes to cosplay, attend ComicCons, go on road trips to Walt Disney World, and play ridiculous amounts of board games. She’s a geek to the core but is also a huge NASCAR Cup fan.
