The Midnight Star by Marie Lu
(The Young Elites #3)
G.P. Putnam’s Sons Books for Young Readers
Release Date: September 6, 2016
Rating: 5 Stars
The thrilling finale to the New York Times bestselling Young Elites series from “hit factory” Marie Lu.
There was once a time when darkness shrouded the world, and the darkness had a queen.
Adelina Amouteru is done suffering. She’s turned her back on those who have betrayed her and achieved the ultimate revenge: victory. Her reign as the White Wolf has been a triumphant one, but with each conquest her cruelty only grows. The darkness within her has begun to spiral out of control, threatening to destroy all that she’s achieved.
Adelina’s forced to revisit old wounds when a new danger appears, putting not only Adelina at risk, but every Elite and the very world they live in. In order to save herself and preserve her empire, Adelina and her Roses must join the Daggers on a perilous quest—though this uneasy alliance may prove to be the real danger.
Bestselling author Marie Lu concludes Adelina’s story with this haunting and hypnotizing final installment to the Young Elites series.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with an advance copy of The Midnight Star for an honest review.
The Midnight Star is by far my favorite ending to a book-to-date!!! This book gave me what I needed from beginning to end, in such a beautiful way. It made me cry several times, so make sure you have tissues when you read! As a huge fan of this series from the start, I was so excited for this book and it met every expectation. I have loved Adelina’s journey into darkness and how she wants love and acceptance but can’t even seem to understand herself.
Adelina has been obsessed with revenge and power. Her own power has started to corrupt her mind, and make her see things and become paranoid. Now Adelina is feeling alone and like she must conquer the world. She wants her people to be willing to obey her, to fear and love her. She becomes more and more concerned with the rebels acting out.
Soon Adelina gets word from Raffaele of a dire situation that concerns her sister and all the Elites. Adelina is worried it could be a trap but knows she must go. Her only real comfort is that Magiano will be at her side. He is really the only one she can trust.
Will Adelina’s actions lead to her demise or to others? Can a world survive with powers that were never meant to exist?
The Midnight Star is full of action, redemption, hope and romance. The folklore at the end was just the best way to end the series. The way that Marie threaded that throughout the series was beautiful. I loved that mythology and gods were touched on more in the last book. I felt that the last book just hit all marks for me. I would so recommend reading this series and book, and I am giving The Midnight Star 5 out of 5 Stars.
