The thrilling first book in a YA fantasy trilogy for fans of Red Queen. In a world where social prestige derives from a trifecta of blood, money, and magic, one girl has the ability to break the spell that holds the social order in place.
Sixteen-year-old Anna Arden is barred from society by a defect of blood. Though her family is part of the Luminate, powerful users of magic, she is Barren, unable to perform the simplest spells. Anna would do anything to belong. But her fate takes another course when, after inadvertently breaking her sister’s debutante spell—an important chance for a highborn young woman to show her prowess with magic—Anna finds herself exiled to her family’s once powerful but now crumbling native Hungary.
Her life might well be over.
In Hungary, Anna discovers that nothing is quite as it seems. Not the people around her, from her aloof cousin Noémi to the fierce and handsome Romani Gábor. Not the society she’s known all her life, for discontent with the Luminate is sweeping the land. And not her lack of magic. Isolated from the only world she cares about, Anna still can’t seem to stop herself from breaking spells.
As rebellion spreads across the region, Anna’s unique ability becomes the catalyst everyone is seeking. In the company of nobles, revolutionaries, and Romanies, Anna must choose: deny her unique power and cling to the life she’s always wanted, or embrace her ability and change that world forever.

I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with an advance copy of Holding on Tighter for an honest review.
This book was everything I love about a Shayla book, strong characters, suspense, and HOT HOT HOT!!! This was a great ending to an amazing series! All the characters make an appearance, which was like icing on the cake.
Jolie is independent and strong but she also has hidden vulnerabilities. She has seen her mom go after so many men only to end up with the wrong ones and end up brokenhearted. Jolie thinks love can’t possibly exist, how could it after how many times her moms tried and hasn’t found it once?
Heath is distant and confident. He carries painful scars from a previous loss and he is scared to feel that kind of pain again. Heath believes in keeping his relationships casual so as not to feel or invest too much.
Both Heath and Jolie are attracted to each other but try to fight it. They worry that the other will want more than they can give. Soon they realize that they may want the same thing, no strings. Jolie is the boss in the office and Heath plans to listen to her there and protect her but when it comes to the bedroom he will be the one who takes charge!
Can Jolie give herself to someone completely and trust? Can Heath learn to feel something again or will he let his fears of loss get in the way?
Holding on Tighter had all the push and pull dynamics between two strong characters that I like. I loved this book and it ended on such a high note for me since this is one of my new favorite couples. I did feel that there was a slight opening with the epilogue with Cutter and maybe Karis. Honestly, I would really be excited for a book for Karis and her to meet her match! I loved this final book and series and I am giving it 5 out of 5 stars and definitely would recommend!
