Prep school gets a twist of supernatural suspense in this commercial YA thriller.
Charlotte has always been content in the shadow of her two best friends at the prestigious Underhill Preparatory Institute. Ariel is daring and mysterious. Devon is beautiful and brilliant. Although Charlotte never lived up to the standards of the school—or her demanding mother—her two best friends became the family she never had. When Ariel and Devon suddenly commit suicide within a month of each other, Charlotte refuses to accept it as a coincidence. But as the clues point to a dangerous secret about Underhill Prep, Charlotte is suddenly in over her head. There’s a reason the students of Underhill are so exceptional, and the people responsible are willing to kill to protect the truth…
Suspenseful and scintillating, with hints of the supernatural, this fast-paced thriller will keep readers hooked.

I would like to thank the American Library Association and the publisher for providing me with an advance copy of Breaking for an honest review at ALA-MW in Atlanta, Georgia.
Breaking was not only heart-breaking and emotional, but strengthening to my mind and heart. While reading this novel it taught me what true love, friendship, and betrayal is. This is the first book by Danielle Rollins I have read and I am so pleased. This book kept me on the edge of my seat and I finished really fast. The character development was outstanding.
Both of Charlotte’s best friends have mysteriously committed suicide within a month of each other. Charlotte looks for clues leading to her very best friend, Ariel’s, death and finds an odd serum, drinks it, and immediately begins feeling different, physically and emotionally.
However odd, the serum does add up some facts for Charlotte, and soon leads to evidence behind the serum and as she had hoped, her friends’ deaths. Along the way, Charlotte finds many other people who had taken in the serum and many different pieces begin fitting together.
What is this mystery serum and where did it come from? What and who were behind Charlotte’s best friends’ deaths?
Breaking was one of the best books I have ever read and anyone who enjoyed the The Creeping by Alexandra Sirowy would have a lot of fun with this book. I love books like this, that give you chills while also solving a mystery, and I will be recommending it to so many people. Breaking definitely deserves 5 out of 5 stars.
