Formats: Hardcover, eBook
Rating: 4 Stars
Trudchen grew up hearing Odette’s stories of their monster-slaying mother and a magician’s curse. But now that Tru’s older, she’s starting to wonder if her older sister’s tales were just comforting lies, especially because there’s nothing fantastic about her own life—permanently disabled and in constant pain from childhood polio.
In 1909, after a two-year absence, Od reappears with a suitcase supposedly full of weapons and a promise to rescue Tru from the monsters on their way to attack her. But it’s Od who seems haunted by something. And when the sisters’ search for their mother leads them to a face-off with the Leeds Devil, a nightmarish beast that’s wreaking havoc in the Mid-Atlantic states, Tru discovers the peculiar possibility that she and her sister—despite their dark pasts and ordinary appearances—might, indeed, have magic after all.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with an early copy of Odd & True for an honest review.
Odd & True is A beautifully written book about sisters who have leaned on each other when both their parents have gone missing. The fairy tale aspect is awesome and then weaved in with all the creep factors made for such a special unique book. I loved the sister relationship, although it is strained at times.
The search for their mother is what Tru is most concerned about and hopes that she will help to heal her from her long and painful disability. Od has her own motives that she sees for her sister and her future.
Will Tru find her mother? Are the stories true and are the monsters real?
You will not believe the twists in this book. This was a fun and creepy read. Perfect for this time of year. I loved all the nods to different classics and also the historical aspect. I am giving this book 4 out of 5 stars.
